How To Join

Any third through twelfth grade student, regardless of race, color, religion, ancestry or national origin, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability is eligible for membership so long as he or she is musically qualified. The Conductors, in their sole discretion, determine music qualification through audition and assign students to one of the three choirs. All returning singers will have voice-checks each spring to check vocal and literacy progress. Harraseeket Singers includes students in grades 3 – 5; Kennebec Singers includes students in grades 6 – 8; Wescustago Singers includes singers in grades 9 – 12.

Auditions are scheduled by groups in hour slots and includes both group singing and a short individual audition.  The audition guides young singers through warm ups, vocalises and teaches a short song.  Age appropriate assessments in musicianship will be given. When we hear from you, the Managing Director will contact you to schedule a time slot that is convenient for you.  We welcome new singers to audition for 2020-21 season in the fall.  We do hope we will be gathering to sing for next season, although we are waiting to hear if that will be practicable.  Our conductors are brainstorming other ideas if we need to remain suspended during the fall months.  Auditions to be held at Mast Landing School.  We also welcome singers to join us in January for the spring semester.  Please send Leigh an email ( if your child would like to be put on a list to be contacted in the fall.

WYC relies on tuition, fundraising events, concert ticket sales and donations for its funding. Singers and their families will be expected to participate in fundraising activities associated with the two self-produced concerts. In addition, Singers and their families will be encouraged to participate in all other fundraising efforts of WYC, including selling ads for the program, raffles, donations of bottles/cans either at Bow Street Market or through the CLYNK program at Hannaford, and any other activities as determined by the board.

Tuition and fees

Tuition is $400 per year for The Wescustago Singers (high school), $380 for Kennebec Singers (middle school) and $340 per year for The Harraseeket Singers (preparatory choir). A $100 tuition deposit is due at the time of the annual voicecheck in the spring, or three weeks after a successful audition to secure your place in the group; the balance is due September 1. The only other anticipated cost is for the concert attire which will be discussed at Fall Kick-Offs.   Any default in payment must be remedied by the end of the season or that Singer will not be able to start the next season. The $100 tuition deposit is non-refundable. The balance of tuition will be refunded if a singer withdraws by the third rehearsal. After the third rehearsal, no tuition will be refunded. Participation in WYC is expected to be for a full year, although exceptions are made for extenuating circumstances.

For half-year participation,  tuition is $170 for Harraseeket and $190 for Kennebec and $200 for Wescustago Singers.

Wescustago Youth Chorale will make every effort to grant scholarship aid if available or to assist in locating a sponsor for any Singer who is otherwise qualified for membership. Scholarships are awarded by application, due on September 15th, and by Board approval at their meeting in September.  If you are interested contributing to the scholarship fund or need information about the scholarship policy, please contact Courtney Durgin, WYC Treasurer ( or Leigh Palmer, Managing Director (
