Grant from Choral Arts New England!

Grant from Choral Arts New England!

We are so excited to announce that we have been awarded a $500 grant from the Choral Arts New England, Newton MA for the year 2020-2021!  Thank you, CANE!

It is our pleasure to inform you that the Board of Directors of Choral Arts New England has voted to award Wescustago Youth Chorale a 2020 Alfred Nash Patterson grant in the amount of $500 to support your project, “Wescustago Wishes: A Commissioned Combined Choral Composition.” Congratulations!

Wescustago Youth Chorale is receiving one of 13 grants being awarded this year from among 51 applicants from across New England.  As always, we are inspired by the creativity and intent of the projects, which in so many different ways are not only promoting choral excellence, but also realizing the beauty, community, and possibilities of choral singing for participants and audiences alike.

We want to have a piece written exclusively for WYC, which will highlight our three different choirs and their abilities and talents.  Usually, we just take a piece and assign verses and harmonies to each chorus, so that we have all singers onstage at the same time.  This new piece will be written for each chorus, and based on their musical education levels.  Our hope is to have this piece to perform at our winter concert in Dec 2020, or at the spring concert in May 2021.  The composer is Andrew Hirst, a colleague of Drew Albert’s from his college years.

We are humbled and pleased to have been awarded this grant, and are so hoping that we can join together and sing again soon!
