Brandon Sterling Williams Memorial Scholarship 2020 awarded to WYC
Yesterday, Brandon Williams would have been 26 years old. He was a former bass singer with WYC for almost all of his middle and high school years. Sadly, his time on earth was cut short unexpectedly by a still-undiagnosed medical issue at the young age of 21 in January 2016.
Brandon’s parents, Bonnie Myles and Dan Williams, will award this year’s Brandon Sterling Williams Memorial Scholarship to Wescustago Youth Chorale, in recognition of the time and passion of Brandon’s years singing with us. WYC will earmark these funds for tuition assistance for current tenor and bass singers.
“In WYC, he was always a steady, down-to-earth, well-liked presence who helped anchor the group. As a singer, he had a nice baritone voice and was easygoing about trying any part or strange vocal technique I threw at him. He helped welcome me into the WYC family. Brandon’s life was too short. I’m just thankful I got to know him during his time on earth,” writes former conductor Amanda Mahaffey.
We miss you, Brandon, and we are humbled to be recognized as an important part of your wonderful but brief life. Deep gratitude to Bonnie and to Dan for helping us to continue providing choral music for other teens in our community.
